In August we celebrate National I Love My Feet Day. It’s a time to take a moment and appreciate how valuable our feet are. After all, without our feet, we couldn’t walk, run, skip, dance, play sports, hike, or do any number of activities we tend to take for granted. Here are some tips to show some love for your feet on this special day.
LOVING YOUR FEET
Our feet do a lot for us and we hardly ever think about them until something goes wrong. This is why it’s important to take good care of our feet to prevent problems from occurring in the first place. We put a lot of wear and tear on our feet, so here are some tips to show some tender love and care for our beloved friends:
- Always stretch before any strenuous exercise. This includes if you’re going for a walk. You can also try various foot exercises to strengthen your feet.
- Massage your feet. Even an occasional massage can aid circulation and increase blood flow.
- Try a foot bath. Soaking your feet twice a week for 30-60 minutes in warm water and Epsom salts can do wonders for your feet. It can help prevent blood clots, ease pain and muscle cramps, and help soothe sore feet. Plus, it just plain feels good!
- Wear proper shoes. Almost 75% of the American population suffers from some kind of foot problem. The majority of these are caused by improperly fitted shoes. Make sure your shoes offer proper arch support and aren’t too tight.
Of course, if you are suffering any issues with your feet, it’s best to contact an experienced foot specialist.
