Blisters are one of the most common and painful skin conditions that can affect the feet. They are often caused by excessive rubbing from improperly fitted shoes. The rubbing causes redness and inflammation followed by the formation of a fluid-filled bubble around the inflamed area.

The fluid inside a blister is usually clear, but it may have a slight pink color if any bleeding is also present. If you notice any yellowing in the fluid it may be a sign of a bacterial or fungal infection. People who perspire heavily on their feet are more likely to develop blisters.

Treating blisters on your feet involves the following procedure:

1)    Clean and sterilize your feet—Wash your feet with soap and warm water then wipe the area down with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

2)    Drain the fluid—Insert a sterilized needle into the edge of the blister where it meets the surrounding skin, and then carefully squeeze the blister with a cotton ball or paper towel to absorb the fluid.

3)    Cover the area—Use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol to clean the area once again and then cover the skin with a band-aid or sterile bandage.
