The foot condition called plantar fasciitis is characterized by an inflammation of the wide band of connective tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot. This tissue is called the plantar fascia and it helps support your arch and provides cushioning and stress absorption from athletic activities and exercise.

Folks who are on the feet all day for work and athletes who experience a lot of repetitive stress from running, jumping, and twisting are more likely to suffer injuries to their feet and ankles and are more susceptible to this condition.

3 common plantar fasciitis symptoms include:

1)    Heel pain—A stabbing pain is often felt in the heel area

2)    Arch inflammation and pain—You may experience a burning and tingling sensation on the bottom of your foot. This can extend to the back of your heel.

3)    Foot stiffening—You may have difficulty bending your foot back and forth without considerable pain and discomfort.

Treatments for plantar fasciitis:

  • Wearing properly-fitted shoes
  • Switching to low-impact activities like cycling and swimming
  • Keeping your weight down
  • Physical therapy exercises to strengthen the muscles and increase flexibility can also help. These exercises can help by increasing circulation, speeding up the healing process, and decreasing the chances of a recurrence.
